People Behind

Coorg Cheshire Day Centre  started with the help of volunteers on the 16th October 2000  at the Lion’s Hall “Anugraha”.  Once the building was completed,  the children moved in to the new    premises in May 2001. The Centre started with  6 children,  which grew to 48 through 5 years. At the Day Centre  the children   are evaluated and according  to their capabilities, are taught  the activities of daily living skills, ( ADLS) and functional academics. After spending a few years  here, 10 have been  included in the mainstream schools, 6 have been sent for training and 2 have been employed. A  plan for a Disability friendly play area is being developed  to suit the requirement of the children. A  portion of it will be sheltered so that the children will be able to utilize it even during the monsoon.

We have a dedicated band of 18 volunteers,  but need  more Special Educators who  will be    present  daily as the strength increases. Rehabilitation services have been provided to Physically and Mentally Challenged people. Vocational  training is also provided to differently abled adults and children and we are trying to empower them  and integrate them into the mainstream of Society. 2 vans have been provided free of charge to the PWDs to reach the Centre, with pick up points at Ponnampet and Nellihudkeri. Therapy is provided on a regular basis   by the Occupational, Physio and Speech therapists from JSS College and Hospital , Mysore and the trained  CBR workers
